Sure, it's not correct to compare them. In fact, I have mentioned that in my text. I also concur that Islamic terrorism is a perversion of Islam. What I wanted to say in this text is that it is dangerous to turn any minority into an underclass. That's where I saw some slight similarities, given the data in the Guardian article is correct.

>>Also, what is the basis of terrorism in Pakistan, Afghanistan etc? Are Muslims the minorities there?
I believe terrorism primarily spawns in the circles of poor, uneducated, disfranchised people who find no peace and certainty in the globalizing world. They seek refuge in the radical ideas of the extremists.

And now I ask myself - wouldn't there be less such wronged people if the societies they lived in were more inclusive? Poverty and lack of education are conducive to violence, I think.

It's not correct to compare the Russian minorities with the Indian minorities.
Muslims in India are pampered by the government. They have their own law called Muslim Personal Law, meaning the govt will have limited interference in their matters.
Muslim in India have special reservations given in government jobs, educational institutions, special bank loans etc. Even the government pays for their travel to HAJ. This does not happen in any secular country in the world.
There have been two Muslim presidents of India. Numerous minsters, governors in the central and state cabinets are Muslims. All the top Bollywood actors in India are Muslims. Muslims have their presence in all walks of the Indian society.

Also, what is the basis of terrorism in Pakistan, Afghanistan etc? Are Muslims the minorities there?

Terrorism has no religion and no justification. These attacks on the humanity as a whole.
