It’s pretty sad to write about bits and bobs of the elections. On a personal level, having many friends who said they would participate in the events of March 19, I really worry for them, as you never know what kind of provocations will be employed by the special units, who of your friends will end up in prison on some far-fetched charges. What is quite easy to guess is that Lukashenka was serious when he said he would defend his power by any means.
Son of the arrested politician Vincuk Viacorka, Franak, wrote in his blog that, about a month ago, Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) received an order to manufacture special water cannon machines to disperse protesters. 20 new machines will have been ready by 17-18 March and will be at disposal of Minsk riot police.
Meanwhile, a Belarusian television program Vybar (Choice) conducted “a live telephone vote.” However, many Belarusian internet users said they even could not get connected to cast a vote. The results were quite similar to what the KGB agent had predicted (see my previous post) – 78% for the incumbent, Haidunkevich – 6%, Milinkevich – 4%, Kazulin – 2%.
