This Entire Post Is a Sacrilege!
March 2 became not only the day when, by any standards, the Belarus’ elections ended, but also produced this nice anecdote.
- In the run-up to Belarus’ presidential elections, an arrested candidate smashed an icon of Lukashenka, which had hung on a wall in the police station. Now the prosecutor is trying to make his mind whether to sue the candidate for sacrilege or blasphemy.

And during his flabbergasting speech at the All-Belarusian assembly, Lukashenka made “a scientific discovery” – he said that Belarusian leading Renaissance scholar and humanist, Francysk Skaryna also belonged to the Russian culture, because he had lived in St. Petersburg. Well, little did our beloved president know, the exact dates of birth and death of Skaryna are unknown; the two most probable estimates are 1485 - 1540 and 1490 - 1551. But in any case, St. Petersburg was founded way much later – in 1703.
Belarusian president is such a cutie, isn’t he?
